Management Leadership Exchange (MIX) - Leadership Series

Purpose of Program:
The MIX-Leadership Series is designed to empower SDSU managers to foster an environment of growth, leadership and effectiveness in a time filled with challenges and change. SDSU wants to provide our campus managers with a series of thought provoking sessions that will challenge managers and assist them in developing more tools and resources to become successful leaders.

Who should attend?:
Management Personnel Plan (MPP or Administrator I — IV)
Student Services Professional (SSP IV)
Department Chairs

The 2012/2013 schedule is coming soon!  Below is a review of the sessions that were offered in 2011/2012.

 

Program Name: Kickoff the Series with Gary London’s Presentation, The New Normal

Program Description: Gary London will address changing demographics –how “Gen Y” in particular is becoming the dominant demographic cohort in our society, and the implications; changing propensities and behaviors –how this younger generation will consume and choose differently than their parents; the impact of technology on our lives, including how we learn and how we work; and how most things our parents taught us about the world around us are not particularly helpful going forward.  He will describe the San Diego of the future – where and how we will live and work and the implications of all of this on leadership and community responsibility.

 

Program Name: Managing Change

Program Description: This session will focus on how to personally manage change and how to lead employees to also manage change in their environment. There will be discussion about the change process, how to be resilient in challenging times, and tips on overcoming resistance.

 

Program Name: Emotional Intelligence

Program Description: This session will introduce participants to the leading model of emotional intelligence and broaden awareness of the role of emotional intelligence at work. Participants will learn how to improve and strengthen self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management skills.

 

Program Name: Generational Differences

Program Description: This interactive session focuses on understanding generational differences by first exploring the demographics and historical perspective of different generations. The defining characteristics of the four generations in the current workplace are identified and there is time spent to understand the values each group holds and how that impacts their work. There are also tips and tricks shared about managing and recruiting the various generations.

 

Program Name:  Accountability

Program Description: This session will focus on how to encourage employee initiative and support by understanding the performance management model and establishing a cycle of accountability. The discussion will include how to create performance standards and useful tips for how to measure results.
