IMPERIAL VALLEY CAMPUS The Imperial Valley campus of San Diego State University is seeking applicants for a tenure track position in Public Administration. Rank is open. The position is a joint appointment to the Imperial Valley campus and the newly reconstituted School of Public Affairs on the San Diego campus with primary duties on the Imperial Valley campus in Calexico. The Imperial Valley campus is located within seven blocks of the United States-Mexico border across from Mexicali, Baja California Norte, and 115 miles east of San Diego, California. The surrounding service region is agricultural and semi-suburban with a population of 170,000. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in public administration, public affairs, business administration, or a related field by August 2008. The position’s teaching emphasis is on management and organizational development. Candidates should have teaching and research interests in at least two of the following areas: management, organization development, organization theory, administrative theory, collective bargaining, or comparative administration (emphasis on Mexico and the United States is desirable). Responsibilities include teaching upper-division and graduate classes, program development, professional development and service. Preference will be given to persons also able to teach courses in public and business management, and or who have knowledge of, or interest in learning Spanish. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and be able to work with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. Applicants should also possess a strong research interest and capability as demonstrated by an appropriate history of, or potential for professional growth activity. This will include publication in quality, refereed journals, professional conference participation, grant activity, as well as other evidence of an active research program. Candidates will be expected to interact effectively with public and private organizations on both sides of the border. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
