VI. TRAINING

  1. Employees who are involved in the excavation operation and exposed to excavation operation hazards shall be trained in the excavator notification and excavation practices.

  2. Employees who perform work tasks in excavation sites shall receive general hazard awareness training.

  3. Competent Persons shall receive specialized training and demonstrate:
    1. Knowledge of the provisions pertaining to excavations, trenches, and earthwork

    2. Knowledge of soil analysis as required in the provisions pertaining to excavations, trenches, and earthwork

    3. Knowledge of the use of protective systems

    4. Authority to take prompt corrective action on the job as conditions warrant

    5. Ability to recognize and test for hazardous atmospheres
