EXPOSURE CONTROL PLAN


PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATING THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING AN EXPOSURE INCIDENT

San Diego State University, Environmental Health and Safety Department will review the circumstances of all exposure incidents to determine:

  • Engineering controls in use at the time

  • Work practices followed

  • A description of the device being used (including type and brand)

  • Protective equipment or clothing that was used at the time of the exposure incident (gloves, eye shields, etc.)

  • Location of the incident (O.R., E.R., patient room, etc.)

  • Procedure being performed when the incident occurred

  • Employee’s training

San Diego State University, Environmental Health and Safety Department will record all percutaneous injuries from contaminated sharps in a Sharps Injury Log.

If revisions to this ECP are necessary San Diego State University, Environmental Health and Safety Department will ensure that appropriate changes are made. (Changes may include an evaluation of safer devices, adding employees to the exposure determination list, etc.)
