Accessibility, the SDSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI), is an intrinsic component of our campuses commitment to ensure access to our information and electronic resources to all individuals, regardless of disabilities.

In support of the CSU ATI effort we are focusing on three aspects of technology:

Web Pages and Applications

The Web is increasingly a major method of communication. It is important to develop web pages, sites, and applications that utilize technology that is accessible for all individuals. Frequently these items are deployed utilizing features that make it very difficult for hearing- or vision-impaired people to access all of the information. These sites, and applications, can be restructured to convey the same information in an accessible manner. We have software tools available to the campus community to conduct an initial evaluation of web accessibility. The use of SDSU CSS templates also facilitates accessibility.

Instructional Materials

There are a broad range of materials utilized in the delivery of courses. This can create some challenges in ensuring access to all students. Early adoption of textbooks, and preference for editions with electronic versions, greatly facilitates access to these materials for visually impaired students. Selection of close-captioned, video materials for example, provides access to students with hearing impairments. Early planning, and selection of accessible, course materials, facilitates equivalent access to all audiences.

Electronic and Information Technology Procurement

When purchasing information technology software and equipment, efforts should be made to order items that provide access to all individuals. We will post more information on procurement procedures as they are developed.
