Emergency Notification

SDSU is committed to providing official emergency information as quickly as the situation allows. SDSU uses a "multi-layered" emergency communication effort to ensure effective dissemination of information to as many affected individuals as possible.

Some or all of the the methods listed below may be activated by campus officials to share information concerning the status of SDSU, including the Imperial Valley Campus, with students, faculty, staff, parents, community members and campus auxiliary organizations.

SDSU has a social media presence on Facebook and it may be used to provide updates during an emergency.  You can follow SDSU here.

SDSU Alert is the campus emergency text/SMS messaging system.  Hosted by Blackboard Connect it allows campus officials to notify the community of emergency situations on campus, provide instructions on what to do, and supply updates as available.  Faculty, Staff, Parents and Community Members can register here or www.sdsu.edu/sdsualert.  Students need only to update their contact information in their Web Portal account.  

 

The SDSU Home Page is the official online location to find information about the SDSU campus.  In the event of an emergency, the web page will be updated with an "Emergency Notification" banner to reflect important information.  You can link to the website here, or at www.sdsu.edu.
 In addition to the main SDSU Home Page, the SDSU Urgent Page will be used specifically to communicate information during an emergency.  You can link to the website here, or at www.sdsu.edu/urgent.
The Imperial Valley Campus Home Page is the official online location for information about the Imperial Valley campus.  In the event of an emerency, the web page will be updated to reflect important information.  You can link to the website here, or at www.ivcampus.sdsu.edu.

 SDSU's emergency information line is 1-866-794-8832 and is updated during emergency situations.
 SDSU's emergency information line for the Calexico and Brawley campuses is 1-760-768-5520 and is updated during emergency situations.
Several departments on campus including the SDSU Police Department, Department of Emergency Services and Marketing and Communications has the ability to send out campus-wide emails to students, faculty and staff.  Emergency update informatio
Each SDSU Police Department patrol vehicle and SDSU Parking and Transportation Services vehicle is equipped with a public address speaker system.  In the event of an emergency requiring evacuation notifications or other information, the vehicles can be deployed to relay important information regarding a campus emergency.
SDSU Marketing and Communications maintains acces to the large, electronic freeway sign overlooking Interstate 8 and College Avenue.  The sign can display statewide messages such as Amber Alerts or can be updated to provide campus-specific emergency information.  The sign can be updated remotely, 24-hours a day.
SDSU Parking and Transportation Services maintains four towable electronic message boards that can be set up on and around campus to provide information about an emergency.
SDSU Campus telephone operators can be reached at 619-594-5200 and may be used during an emergency to facilitate notification to the campus community or to answer incoming calls and inquires about an incident on campus.
KPBS studios are located on the SDSU campus and provide daily programming to all of San Diego Count.  Local Channel 15 and Radio 89.5 FM may be used during an emergency to realy important information.
Local San Diego Radio stations KOGO / AM 600, KPOP / AM 1360 and KSDO1 / AM 1130 may all be used to help relay important information during an emergency.
KECY Channel 9, KYMA Channel 1 and Radio stations KPBS 97.7 FM and KXO / AM 1230 may all be used to help relay important information during an emergency.
Each campus department or division maintains a phone tree of employees to be notified in the event of an emergency.  While they may differ slightly, they are intended to provide internal notification in event of an emergency that may impact specific campus departments.
SDSU Police Department, in compliance with federal, state and campus policies will provide timely notification to the campus community as needed depending on the specific emergency.  Please see the SDSU Police Department website for further information.
