Asbestos Locations within Buildings

All buildings constructed prior to 1981 are presumed to contain asbestos in thermal system insulation, floor tile, and surfacing materials unless otherwise stated (i.e.- sampling verifies that no asbestos is present). Actual survey results have confirmed the presence of asbestos-containing building materials in the following buildings and locations. The asbestos in these materials does not constitute a health hazard if left undisturbed.

NOTE: All 9" x 9" floor tiles located throughout the University are likely to contain asbestos. Due to the tiles' wide distribution, their individual locations are not typically shown here. If your building is not shown on this list, it may still contain 9" x 9" asbestos-containing floor tiles. Also, fire doors, steam and condensate pipe insulation, high voltage cabling insulation and some 12" x 12" floor tiles throughout the campus may contain asbestos as well. Project Managers are advised to conduct asbestos surveys based on their specific project location and specific building material that will be impacted as part of their project.
