Mission Statement

Three Guiding Principles

The Center for Human Resources adopted three guiding principles by which we expect to be evaluated and our services to the San Diego State University campus measured. They are as follows:

Respectful

  • The Center never forgets the people it serves. The Center itself is not the end — it is a means to help the University reach its objectives in the most effective way, using the best resources available in the most respectful way.
  • The Center has a sense of balance and humor.
  • The Center values and promotes diversity and equity.

Resourceful

  • The Center for Human Resources is not afraid to innovate.
  • The Center questions, “Will the institution be a better place because of this innovation? Does this make sense?”
  • The Center’s greatest tool is Common Sense — it can never be over used!
  • The Center is not afraid of failure.

Responsive

  • The Center recognizes that our role is to serve the campus. It is responsive to outcomes. It looks at everything and asks, “Why are we doing this? Do we need to do this? And if so, Can we do this more effectively?
  • The Center is responsive to change, both in providing its services and in facilitating change on campus. It will not only learn advanced state-of-the-art techniques but will also put a premium on advancing these state-of-the-art techniques in every one of its fields.
