Temporary or Part-Time Positions

The Department of Theatre, Television and Film is accepting applications for its pool of part-time and temporary lectures to teach one or two courses in the following areas: child theatre, history/play analysis, directing, acting, movement, design. Minimum qualifications: Master's degree with teaching experience at the junior college or college level. Salary commensurate with credentials and experience according to University policy. Job Description: San Diego State University’s School of Theatre, Television, and Film seeks a candidate to serve in a leadership capacity as Head of Acting. Position includes: instruction in undergraduate acting programs, curriculum development, advising, and leadership within an increasingly interdisciplinary program and campus. Ongoing professional activity and leadership in the area of acting are expected. Candidate will possibly teach Acting I, II, & III, advanced styles in acting and directing (classical or contemporary), Auditioning, and Acting on Camera. We encourage applicants who will bring diverse perspectives to teaching acting, including race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and/or gender expression/identity. The successful candidate will be joining a school with a broad-based approach to teaching acting; a requirement for a student international experience; and high-quality student performance opportunities in musical theatre, the classics, modern plays, theatre for youth, television, and film. Graduates from the current program go on to graduate school, professional careers as performers, and begin their own theatre companies.

Requirements:

  • MFA or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years university teaching experience
  • Professional experience in Performance or Production in theatre, television, or film
  • A vision for the development of a large, undergraduate acting program
  • An interdisciplinary perspective on learning in a university context
  • A commitment to collegial collaboration with fellow faculty
  • An artist/scholar who has ongoing professional growth activities to achieve tenure

The successful candidate will have experience in one or more of these areas of expertise:

  • Acting for the camera
  • Multi-media performance
  • Demonstrated ability to direct
  • Movement
  • Musical theatre
  • Voice and speech
  • Ability to teach additional performance skills
