TENURE-TRACK MATHEMATICS EDUCATION POSITION

The School of Teacher Education (http://edweb.sdsu.edu/STE/ ) at San Diego State University announces a full-time tenure track position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant/Associate Professor level beginning in August 2008.
Applicants should have a doctorate in mathematics education or a related field. A balance of teaching and research is essential for success in SDSU's dynamic environment. San Diego offers many opportunities to conduct research in culturally diverse, urban classrooms. Candidates for this position must have a willingness to work in teacher preparation, master's, and doctoral programs. Experience working with K–12 students, teachers, or classrooms is required.
We are looking for a colleague to join our large collaborative group of mathematics educators housed in the School of Teacher Education and in the Mathematics Department. The Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education (CRMSE,http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/CRMSE/ ) provides a unique environment to encourage and support research collaboration among faculty in the College of Education and the College of Sciences.

Our department offers elementary and secondary credentials and several master’s degree programs, including a vibrant master’s degree program in mathematics education. SCIENCE TEACHER EDUCATOR POSITION

Position: Assistant/Associate, Full-time Tenure Track Position
Qualifications: Applicants must possess a doctorate in Science Education or a related field, with a strong background in one or more areas of science. K-12 teaching experience or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working successfully with K-12 multicultural populations, particularly in urban settings. A balance of teaching and research is essential for success in SDSU's dynamic environment. Candidates for this position must provide evidence of a commitment to scholarship and research. A record of scholarly activities is essential for appointment at Associate Professor level.
Candidates for this position must have experience with and/or a commitment to: 1) working in field-based, collaborative, multicultural teacher preparation programs; 2) engaging in science education scholarship and research; and 3) using technology as a tool for teaching and learning, course development, and instructional delivery. In addition, the School of Teacher Education prefers candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: a) student learning outcomes and program evaluation, b) interdisciplinary collaborations, c) international programs, and d) professional development schools.
Salary: Commensurate with academic rank and experience, and subject to collective bargaining negotiations.

Division of Education, Imperial Valley Campus

San Diego State University, Imperial Valley Campus is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in Teacher Education. The rank is open. The position is a joint appointment to the Division of Education at Imperial Valley Campus in Calexico, CA, and the School of Teacher Education, in the College of Education on the San Diego campus. The primary assignment is to the Imperial Valley Campus. A record of substantial scholarly activity is required for appointment as an Associate/Full Professor.
San Diego State University, Imperial Valley Campus serves upper division and graduate students. The campus is located 120 miles east of San Diego and directly across the border from Mexicali, Mexico, the capital of Baja California.
Required Background:
A doctorate in Curriculum, Assessment or closely related field is strongly preferred. Consideration can be extended to candidates who are ABD with the understanding that completion of the doctorate by May 2008 will be a condition of employment.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching, professional growth and service activities with a particular emphasis on the K-8 context.
1. Teaching
The Division of Education, Imperial Valley Campus is looking for applicants with broad backgrounds prepared to develop new programs and meet diverse needs. Responsibilities will include teaching courses in the following areas: curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment, and may include field experiences or other areas based on the expertise of the applicant.
2. Professional Growth
A Professional Growth agenda that includes research and publication in refereed journals; presentations at local, regional and national conferences; participation in grant development and/or special projects; maintaining currency in areas of expertise; and developing additional areas as needed to meet professional goals and needs of the Division of Education in Imperial Valley and the School of Teacher Education in San Diego
3. Service
Service to the University, community and discipline, including advising, curriculum development, special projects, and other tasks that sustain and advance the work of the Division of Education and School of Teacher Education; participation in Division, Department, College, and University committees and activities as a member and leader; development and maintenance of partnerships with schools, businesses, and other relevant entities in the community.
