The Department of Special Education faculty prepare certificate, credential, masters, and doctoral degree candidates in Education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities, moderate/severe disabilities, early childhood special education, or gifted and talented.
The Department of Special Education is seeking one tenure-track faculty at the Assistant level with expertise in mild/moderate disabilities. Preference is given to applicants who have an earned doctorate in special education (by August, 2008) with a focus on educational programs and services for students with mild/moderate disabilities and must demonstrate a commitment to research, publication, and grant attainment.
Applicants who show knowledge and skills related to evidence-based practices in the following areas are preferred: curriculum and instruction for individuals with mild to moderate disabilities, Curriculum Based Measurement, appropriate practices in culturally diverse and linguistically diverse settings, successful university teaching experiences. practicum supervision experience, and skills in special education technology for individuals with mild-disabilities. Preference may be also given to those candidates who demonstrate additional expertise related to individuals with mild to moderate disabilities in one or more of the following areas: behavior management, autism, early childhood, gifted and talented, or transition.
Applicants should also demonstrate a willingness to engage in school/university partnerships for research and personnel preparation and K-12 special education teaching experience is highly desirable. As the ability to work in culturally diverse settings is essential for this position, individuals who possess bicultural and/or bilingual skills are encouraged to apply.
