Q1: What is the difference between New Employee Orientation and the Benefits Orientation?
A: The New Employee Orientation is a half-day program held each month to help staff become familiar with the history of San Diego State University, understand the organizational structure, and learn about the services that are offered to both employees and students. The two-hour Benefits Orientation provides newly eligible faculty and staff with the detailed information they need to make the most of their benefits.

Q2: Who has to take the on-line Sexual Harassment Prevention training?
A: Any individual who supervises employees or student assistants (e.g. provides work direction) is required to complete the course. This training is required by law and a refresher course must be completed every two years.

Q3: What’s the difference between the President’s Management Development Program and the Supervisors Academy?
A: PMDP is designed for staff who are in an MPP or SSP III/IV position. Employees in a similar level position may apply with a manager’s recommendation. Participants will increase their capacity to be effective in their current and future positions by gaining proficiency in essential management skills and acquiring a broader understanding of the SDSU system.
The Supervisor’s Academy is a program designed to provide supervisors and lead employees with essential skills needed to successfully supervise employees at SDSU.

Q4: How do I apply for the President’s Management Development Program or the Supervisors Academy?
A: General announcements and information regarding the application period will be advertised in the SDSUniverse. Interested employees may submit an application for either program before the advertised deadline (typically during the late summer or early fall). Applications submitted after this date are considered on a space-available basis.
