Employee Relations Officer

Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations and Compliance, the Employee Relations Officer serves a critical role in managing and administering employee and labor relations for the University’s non-instructional staff, a population of roughly 1,700 employees organized in eight collective bargaining units that are represented by five different unions.  Key responsibilities include contract administration (implementation and grievance management); serving as a liaison between the California State University Chancellor’s Office, University supervisors and managers, and employees and union representatives; providing administrative guidance and counsel to University supervisors and managers; and managing the staff discipline process.  Working in a challenging and dynamic environment, the Employee Relations Officer strives to develop amiable and effective relationships amongst all stakeholders.  They possess superior analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, and are dedicated to individual and institutional success, and building on SDSU’s excellence.

The ideal candidate will have a background in collective bargaining agreement administration; management and union relations; and discipline and due process procedures.  They possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, advocacy skills, and the curiosity and capacity to learn about the University, its many sub-organizations, and its context.
