Employment Verifications
A “verifier” is a representative from an organization that is seeking employment and/or earnings information about an employee. A verifier may be a representative from the bank, credit agency, company conducting background investigations, or prospective employer.
OPTION 1 - The Work Number for Everyone:
A verifier may obtain the following information by using The Work Number for Everyone:
- Job title
- Current pay rate
- Time with the organization
- Total earnings for the past two years
- Pay frequency
To use The Work Number for Everyone, dial 1-800-367-5690 or visit their web site by clicking here and provide the following information:
- State of California Company Code 10396
- Your ID: last six digits of SSN followed by two digit month and two digit day of birth (mm/dd)
- Your PIN: two digit month and two digit day of birth (mm/dd)
For verification of student employees and part-time employees, use Option 2.
OPTION 2 – SDSU Employment Verification Procedures:
Written Verification (Request will be returned within 24-48 hours)
- A verifier may request the required information via fax to 619-594-1147‚ Attention: Employment. The employee’s social security number or Red ID number must be provided along with signed permission for the Center for Human Resources to release the requested information.
- In the event that an employee is in need of a formal letter from their employer‚ an Employment Verification Request form
must be completed by the employee and submitted to the Center for Human Resources for processing. A letter will be generated and delivered per instructions provided on the request form.
Verbal Verification
- The Center for Human Resources will only verbally verify if an employee is currently employed with a “yes” or “no” answer. Any information requested beyond that must be submitted for written verification as explained above.
