Flexcash & Tax Advantage Premium Plan (TAPP)
FlexCash
FlexCash allows eligible employees to waive CSU medical and/or dental insurance plans in exchange for cash, provided they have proof of other non-CSU insurance coverage. The cash payment options are:
- Waive both medical and dental $140/month
- Waive medical only $128/month
- Waive dental only $12/month
Note: proof of alternate non-CSU insurance coverage is required.
What you should consider before enrolling into the FlexCash Program
- Medical and dental needs are adequately met through other non-CSU insurance coverage.
- Cash payment stipends are considered taxable income.
- Enrollment in the program waives medical and/or dental continuation rights to a surviving spouse in the event of an employee’s death.
- Enrollment in the program waives the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) continuation rights in the event the employee is terminated or otherwise loses eligibility for benefits.
- Employees retiring while enrolled in the FlexCash Program will have 30 days following retirement to enroll in any PERS medical and or CSU dental plan. Please contact a Benefits representative regarding enrollment prior to retirement.
- Employees who lose their other non-CSU coverage while on the FlexCash Plan will have the opportunity to enroll in a medical and/or dental plan within 60 days of losing coverage. Employees are required to provide proof of loss of coverage.
Employees choosing the FlexCash option will need to complete and turn in the following forms to the Benefits office located in Extended Studies Center, 4th floor or send via campus mail to MC 1625:
- Benefits Enrollment/Change Form
- Declaration of Health Care Coverage
- FlexCash Program Enrollment Authorization
(Due to legal requirements, we must have an original on file and therefore, we are unable to accept a faxed form.)
Tax Advantage Premium Plan (TAPP)
Under The Tax Advantage Premium Plan (TAPP), employee contributions toward medical plan premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis. This means you will not pay taxes on those premiums—they are converted to tax-free expenses.
You are eligible to participate in TAPP if you are an active CSU employee and enrolled in a CalPERS health plan. All employees are automatically enrolled in TAPP. If you prefer to pay your premium from after-tax salary, please notify a Benefits representative within 60 days of becoming eligible or during the open enrollment period.
