Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
An employer-paid life insurance and accidental death / dismemberment program is administered by The Standard Insurance Company (Group Policy #603267-C). The Standard’s CSU basic term life and AD&D Insurance Plan contain a number of enhanced coverage features including:
- MEDEX Travel Assist
- Waiver of premium for disabled employees
- Accelerated Benefits (e.g. living death benefit), and
- Limited portability

All eligible employees are automatically enrolled. Coverage is effective the first of the next pay period following eligibility. The Amount of Coverage varies by employee category. The full cost of this coverage for eligible employees is paid by the CSU except during unpaid leaves of absence. Each new participant will be provided with a certificate of insurance detailing the program. Beneficiary Provisions. If you wish to designate a beneficiary other than a spouse, child or parent that are considered automatic (statutory) beneficiaries, you must complete a Life and AD&D Beneficiary Designation and Change Form.
MEDEX Travel Assist. It’s designed to provide important resources, including evacuation services, arrangement of medical and/or legal care while traveling. Additional details of this benefit are outlined in the Medex Travel Assist Brochure.
Direct Pay. If you go on a leave without pay or are otherwise on approved non-pay status, you may elect to pay the full premium for continuous coverage. For further information, contact the Benefits office at 619-594-1144.
