Project Description

The California State University is pursuing the construction of an intra-campus, telecommunications infrastructure at each of the 23 CSU campuses to support a standardized, baseline communication system. At San Diego State University, the Department of Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS) and Facilities Planning will be responsible for upgrading the campus telecommunication infrastructure to meet the CSU standard.

To accomplish this, SDSU’s voice and data telecommunications infrastructure will be converted to a 10/100 MB/sec switched Ethernet, Category 6 standard. A minimum of two communication outlets will be installed every office of 100 square feet or larger. Each outlet will be wired with three Cat 6 cables — one cable dedicated to voice communication (phone, fax, or modem), and two cables dedicated for data communication (Ethernet). Instructional or academic areas, such as classrooms, laboratories, and preparation stations, will have a single outlet installed, with three Cat 6 cables — one dedicated to voice, one for data, and one for video transmission.

See the TIP Project web site for details.
