Appendix 4: SDSU Characteristics and EnvironmentFounded in 1897, San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region. The campus also offers classes at our Imperial Valley Campus. SDSU operates the Mount Laguna Observatory and manages four biological field stations totaling more than 9,000 acres.
