Excavation, Trenching, and Shoring Program

I. OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES

Excavation construction operations can expose employees to hazardous conditions. For example, cave-ins pose a risk to employees working inside of an excavation and are likely to result in worker fatalities. Other potential hazards include falls, falling loads, hazardous atmospheres, and incidents involving mobile equipment.

The information in this written program includes responsibilities, training requirements, operational procedures, and safe work practices related to work in excavations.

The objective of this program is to enable employees to identify hazards and to establish procedures to prevent injury.
