Photography and Graphics Guidelines


Photography Guidelines

The university has no liability or legal responsibility for photography that is not contracted by Marketing & Communications.


Model release form
The model release form should be used by SDSU staff and by any professional photographer hired by SDSU when photographing any person or persons who will appear in official SDSU publications. If the model is under 18 years of age, the form must also be signed by the model's parent or guardian.

Commercial Photography
C
ommercial photographers should receive prior approval from the university; note that photography is restricted in the dining commons, residence halls (except for residents), bookstore, classrooms and office areas without prior approval. Commercial photographers must use a model release form (see above). Contact Lori Padelford, senior graphic designer, Marketing & Communications, 619-594-2587 or padelfor@mail.sdsu.edu.

 

Access to copies of existing photos
(Applies to slides, film, videotape as well as photo prints)

Requests for photos to be taken

  • Faculty: Photographic Services at Instructional Technology Services can provide a wide range of photographic support to faculty for their use in direct classroom instruction, research and publication.   • Non-faculty: SDSU does not provide photographic services but does occasionally hire professional photographers for special projects and events. For referral information contact Lori Padelford, senior graphic designer, Marketing & Communications, 619-594-2587 or padelfor@mail.sdsu.edu. Please adhere to any photo credit requirements specified.

 

Altering images: a caution
Be extremely careful about altering a photograph with PhotoShop or another software program. In particular, avoid alterations that affect the accuracy of the persons, places or events depicted in the photo. For questions regarding the appropriateness of a change contact
